Why Happiness Matters

Happy lady

As we celebrated the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century on January 1st, none of us could have foreseen the tumultuous events that have unfolded so far this year: devastating COVID-19 pandemic, social unrest, wild fires and hurricanes.  It’s been a difficult year for everyone. But even as we navigate the chaos of 2020, it is extremely important that we maintain a positive attitude. In this article we highlight important reasons to engage in positivity and spread happiness when possible.

Arguably the most important reason to maintain a happy positive attitude is because it helps you to achieve a good night’s sleep to prepare for the day ahead, according to a study from researchers at Cornell University. And it is universally known that getting proper sleep is extremely important for many reasons, such as, proper regulation of glucose metabolism, improved cognition and concentration, strengthened immune system, and other reasons. We can’t emphasize it enough - good sleep is one of the pillars of good health. And good health can set the foundation for happiness.

Another reason that happiness matters is because it helps us maintain our existing positive and harmonious relationships and establish new ones. We all are attracted to happy, upbeat people. Their positive energy is contagious and often helps someone whose day is not going well to have a change of spirit and pull out of down mood. The old adage, “Smile and the world smiles with you” is very true! Give it a try!

In addition, happiness matters because as science has shown, happy people tend to be more productive. According to a study at the University of Warwick in the UK, happy people are twelve percent more productive than the average individual. We all feel more energized and upbeat when we’re happy and this in turn leads up to get more accomplished.

Last and certainly not least, why happiness matters is because happy people are healthier mentally and physically. Studies have shown that people who enjoy life tend to maintain better physical function than those who don’t. They exercise, eat a healthy diet, and get plenty of sleep. In addition, happy people exhibit self-control; moderate drinking and some smoking or none at all.

In conclusion, Happiness Matters! Strive to live your best life! You have the power within you! Change your thinking and change your life!
