Choosing the Perfect Pair of Sunglasses For Your Facial Shape

Choosing the Perfect Pair of Sunglasses For Your Facial Shape

Choosing the perfect pair of sunglasses for your facial shape can be quite challenging. While some frame shapes will complement your best facial features, others may not be as flattering. Aside from protecting your eyes from the sun’s ultra-violet (UV) rays, sunglasses can also top off your outfit and create quite a fashion statement. Thus, taking the time to select the best sunglasses for your facial shape is very well your time! A good rule of thumb to remember when searching for the perfect pair of sunglasses is that the shape of the sunglasses should be opposite the shape of your face! This blog will assist you in understanding which sunglasses best complement your facial shape and which styles may not.

Types of Facial Shapes

Facial shapes generally fall in one of these five categories: Square, oval, round, rectangular and heart. If you aren't quite sure what your facial shape is, take a selfie and then print out the photo. Next, using tracing paper, outline the edge of your face,

Oval Facial Shape

People with an oval shape can wear pretty much any frame out there. Generally, large, dark frames are quite flattering and complement the cheekbones of an oval face shape. Always think about proportion and try not to go too small or too big for your face. You can find a range of selection of sunglasses for this facial shape at EyeDope. The style pictured below is called Jag Black.

Round Facial Shape

People with a round facial shape should go for sunglasses that create definition. A style with a strong brow line in a size that is slightly wider than the head will help make their cheekbones look slimmer. Also, consider angular sunglasses like Captiva Rose Gold (shown in pic below) that will help elongate the temples and lengthen the face. Avoid circles as they will tent to accentuate a round face. Idol is another style by us that would complement this facial as it has a modern square frame.

Heart Facial Shape

Square frames tend to complement a narrow chin and add various angles for more layers of visual interest. If you have a heart facial shape, try not to go for anything over-sized or teardropped. Instead, choose something that has a defined corner like Jag Multi Hue shown below.

Rectangular Facial Shape

The best sunglasses for this type of face are those that can provide the face with a sense of balance and add width. Square or round frames work well here. However, ensure you go for bigger, even slightly over-sized styles, such as Mystical, pictured below.

Square Facial Shape

Wide cheekbones and a strong jawline add up to a square face. If you have these features, consider wearing round frames which will tend to look better on you than angular designs with sharp lines. Standby for several round styles from EyeDope in the near future.
